Our District
The Mountain Communities Volunteer Fire Protection District (MCFPD) is a roughly 100 square mile fire protection district in Colorado situated along Highway 67 between Deckers to the north and Woodland Park to the south. The east and west borders are within Rainbow Falls to the east and the south fork of the South Platte river above Cheesman Reservoir to the west. Our district includes both Teller and Douglas counties. We service an additional 100 square miles of no man's land within Pike National Forest, covering a total of three forest ranger districts all the way east to Rampart Range Road.
Our terrain is between 7,500 and 10,000 altitude, leading to many tough, mountainous rescues. Many of our EMS rescues for motorized vehicle accidents (automobiles, ATVs, road, and dirt bikes) occur within the Rainbow Falls area and the S-curves on Highway 67. We also serve the Turkey Tracks Shooting Area, which is extremely popular for recreational shooting, resulting in many wildland fires when responsible target use and placement isn’t observed.
The burn scar from the Hayman Fire of 2002 lies within a good portion of our district. Unfortunately, around 100 homes were lost during that fire, but the personnel involved saved many others.
