Alerts & Notifications

Fire restrictions are constantly changing within the Mountain Communities Fire Protection District (MCFPD). Stay up-to-date about burn bans, burn permits, and general emergency notifications within your area. Emergency notifications include evacuations, road closures, disasters, hazardous materials incidents, and additional law enforcement events that threaten life, property, and/or general public safety. Teller County sends these notifications via Peak Alerts, while Douglas County sends them via CodeRED.

Current Fire/Burn Ban Status

  • Teller County

The Teller County Sheriff’s Office posts burn ban status on a dedicated page of their website. Separate PDFs (stage 1 and stage 2) define restrictions.

  • Douglas County

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office outlines burn ban stages and current status within the Office of Emergency Management section of their website.

  • Pike National Forest

The U.S. Forest Service shows current fire restrictions and stages for the Pike National Forest in an interactive map broken up by Ranger District.

Open Burning Permits

Teller County permits are managed through the Teller County Sheriff's Office for a $10 fee. Permits are required for a total fuel area more than three feet in diameter and/or more than two feet in height contained in an outdoor fireplace, barbecue grill, or pit.

Douglas County permits within our district are issued through the Mountain Communities Volunteer Fire Department (MCVFD). We will conduct a site visit to inspect any slash piles and review safety rules prior to issuing a permit.
